Billie Eilish and Phoebe Bridgers lend their voices to My Chemical Romance's new animated short film
The stars participate in the animation Prelude to the End, which celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the iconic album The Black Parade.
The alternative rock and contemporary pop scenes have just crossed paths in a surprising project. Singer Billie Eilish and artist Phoebe Bridgers have been confirmed for the voice cast of a new and mysterious animated short film released by the band My Chemical Romance.
The audiovisual production was titled Prelude to the End. The work was developed in collaboration with visual artist Lauren Tsai and uses the track The End as its soundtrack, the classic opening song of the acclaimed album The Black Parade, originally released in 2006.
In the plot of the animation, the audience follows the journey of Astrid, a young student at a New England boarding school who has to deal with an environment overtaken by trash. Upon diving into a dumpster in search of her favorite sketchbook, the protagonist is transported to a surreal dimension where concepts from the past come to life.
Inside this fantastical universe, Billie Eilish lends her voice to a close friend of the protagonist. Meanwhile, Phoebe Bridgers takes on the role of Astrid's sister, while names like game designer Hideo Kojima and actor John C. McGinley complete the talented voice cast in the roles of authoritarian figures at the institution.
The release of the short film coincides with the celebrations of two decades of The Black Parade, which recently received a special anniversary edition. The band has been celebrating the date with a series of special performances across the United States, including a five-night residency in Los Angeles.
The animated work has special screenings scheduled to take place during the closing shows of this performance season in California. To date, representatives of the artists involved have not disclosed whether the short film will be made available in full for public viewing on internet streaming platforms.
