Billie Eilish lends her voice to My Chemical Romance's new short film
The singer is part of the voice cast for the short film Prelude to The End, created by Lauren Tsai in partnership with the rock band.
Artist and director Lauren Tsai has expanded her conceptual universe known as The Dying World in an unprecedented collaboration with the iconic band My Chemical Romance. The project results in an animated short film that unites Tsai's characteristic visual style with the sonic universe of the North American musicians.
Entitled Prelude to The End, the film functions as a narrative offshoot and reaches the public accompanying the anniversary celebrations of the classic album The Black Parade. The project's soundtrack is driven by the opening track of the famous rock record, serving as the basis for the work's dark and nostalgic atmosphere.
The plot follows protagonist Astrid on a journey through a peculiar boarding school in New England, filled with surreal elements. After having her sketchpad discarded, the young woman enters a territory inhabited by forgotten concepts and encounters striking figures from the artist's previous productions.
To bring this expanded universe to life, the production brought together a heavy-hitting voice cast from music and pop culture. Billie Eilish is part of the project voicing a friend of the protagonist, participating directly in the narrative alongside other major names in the industry.
In addition to the presence of the Happier Than Ever singer, the short features singer Phoebe Bridgers playing Astrid's sister. The voice cast also features special appearances by renowned game designer Hideo Kojima and actor John C. McGinley in authority roles within the plot.
The partnership crowns the trajectory of Lauren Tsai, who as a child produced fan videos dedicated to the New Jersey band. The release of the short is accompanied by special screenings scheduled to take place during the group's concert residency at the famous Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
