Billie Eilish joins voice cast in My Chemical Romance animated short
The singer is part of the special commemorative project for the classic album The Black Parade, directed by Lauren Tsai.
The My Chemical Romance universe has gained a surprising visual chapter filled with major pop culture names. Celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the iconic album The Black Parade, the band joined forces with artist Lauren Tsai for the release of a stop-motion short film titled Prelude to the End.
Clocking in at just over six minutes, the production features the opening track of the historic record on its soundtrack. The visual project builds upon elements from Tsai's previous work, titled The Dying World Part One: Forgetting, delivering a dark and captivating narrative.
The big surprise for pop and alternative music fans was the confirmation of Billie Eilish's involvement in the project. The Grammy-winning singer lends her voice to one of the characters in the plot, marking yet another major foray into acting and voice-over work.
The stellar cast assembled by Lauren Tsai also features other prominent figures in music and entertainment. Singer Phoebe Bridgers participates by voicing the protagonist Astrid's sister, while legendary game designer Hideo Kojima takes on the role of a teacher in the story.
The plot follows Astrid torn between fragmented realities, including an office environment and a desolate realm made of trash. The narrative brings subtle references that have sparked theories among the group's most attentive rock fans.
The screening of this special material was scheduled to take place during My Chemical Romance's performances at the Hollywood Bowl, marking the festive dates of the anniversary tour. So far, there is no official information regarding a wide release of the animation on digital platforms outside of live events.
Billie Eilish's participation in this project celebrates her artistic versatility and increasingly strong connections with the alternative music scene. For the singer's fans, the news reinforces her reach in creative and innovative productions around the world.
